Striped design featuring natural raffia with sand stripes. Mar Y Sol’s “natural” colorway features the natural tone of the un-dyed raffia and sisal plant fibers. Mar Y Sol’s “sand” colorway is dyed with dried tea leaves.

This is a handmade item, and slight variances in each piece can occur which make each one unique and one-of-a-kind. For example, due to the artisan dye process with the dried tea leaves, the “sand” stripes on the tote in our pictures are a slightly different shade of sand than the sand stripes on the tote in the stock photo.

In 2003, we traveled to Madagascar to build on a community development effort initiated by a relative. We met with dozens of artisan groups who had a vision of making their products available in the global marketplace. Since then, the Mar Y Sol team has built an accessories brand recognized for its unique designs, exquisite craftsmanship and creative use of sustainable materials. We maintain our commitment to this tradition by using organically tanned leathers and responsibly sourced raw materials. The sale of our products enables families to gain economic independence, preserves traditional craft and promotes environmental conservation.
Each piece we produce is completely dyed, crocheted, woven, and sewn by hand in Madagascar. We use natural, sustainable materials including raffia, sisal and seagrass. Madagascar has the most luxe species of raffia palm in all the world. It results in beautiful, durable accessories that have a wonderful texture and quality. We use azo-free dyes. Our “natural” colorway features the natural tone of the un-dyed raffia and sisal plant fibers. Our “sand” colorway is dyed with dried tea leaves. Our leather is organically tanned by hand using only soap, water, and the rays of the sun. The leather will soften and patina with use.
